Olivia's 4 month birthday

It's Leap Day and Olivia's 4 month birthday!  She had her checkup yesterday and was deemed a healthy girl.  Current stats: 13 lbs 1.5 oz; 24.4 inches (approx. 40th and 50th percentiles).  Just for comparison, at his 4 month checkup Andrew was 18 lbs 9 oz and 25.8 inches.  I think perhaps that Olivia will take more after me size-wise than her dad!

Highlights from our photo shoot today:

Happy girl :)

Andrew had to be bribed with chocolate to take a pic with his sister

Cute feet!

P.S. Olivia is peacefully napping and I can hear Andrew jumping on his bed.

Return of the Pee Bandit

After the big pee on the floor incident last week, we got a little creative in our efforts to keep the floor dry. Carl safety pinned Andrew into his jammies each night while I dressed him in pants he couldn't easily pull off during the day. We had success until last night. Carl redressed Andrew once after we put him to bed with a stern reminder to leave his clothes and diaper on. A short while later, Andrew was calling for me so I walked into his bedroom and stepped in something wet. The little bugger had peed all over the floor again! We got everything cleaned up and put him back t bed and thankfully, that was it for the night.

Before nap time today, Andrew was asking about his underpants (he has a few pairs of training pants but he hasn't worn them yet). A couple of days earlier he wanted them on over his diaper during nap. (I guess he's really into underwear right now because on the way to Target today he told me we were going to pick out underpants for Olivia because she's a big girl). We did the same today and then after nap I decided that we would take the diaper off for the rest of the day and just wear the underpants. Andrew has stayed dry so far and used the potty before dinner. We'll see what happens at bed time, but with any luck the next update will be about Underpants Man!

On another note, this boy loves Nutella so much that he ate it with his eggs this morning. EW.

Family time/ the pee bandit

The weekend started off on Friday afternoon with a silly self-portrait photoshoot for Andrew and me. We had a pretty fun afternoon and evening that day which set the scene for an enjoyable weekend. Saturday morning, the four of us set off for the northern suburbs to celebrate the first birthday of my cousin's daughter. We hadn't seen my cousins or aunt and uncle since last summer, so it was fun to catch up and have them finally meet Olivia. After the party, we stayed overnight at my sister's house and had a slumber party there with Mimi (Nicky and Ken were off on a weekend trip so they missed out on our fun!). Andrew was thrilled to play with one of Uncle Ken's childhood trucks and had a great time running around with Mimi. We had set up the air mattress in the room where we usually sleep thinking (hoping!) Andrew would sleep on it and Carl and I would take the bed. It didn't quite work out that way. Andrew ended up falling asleep with his head resting on my back while Carl was up brushing his teeth. Carl scooted Andrew off of me and went to sleep on the air mattress. Unfortunately for me, Andrew is a bit of a thrasher. I've had better nights of sleep.

Sunday morning, John and Amy brought a delicious breakfast over and we had some time to play before we headed back home. Andrew took them both on playdates in the house and John helped Andrew with a puzzle that Mimi gave him. The ride home was uneventful except that Andrew fell asleep about three minutes before we got home which did not bode well for nap time. We had some lunch and attempted to get Andrew down for a nap, but were unsuccessful. Later on while I was cooking dinner, I realized that it had gotten really quiet. I looked over to the couch where Andrew was sitting and he had fallen asleep. It was quite cute, but I wasn't sure if I should try to wake him for dinner or just try to put him in his bed. He woke up on his own while I was feeding Olivia and was all confused and cranky. I was able to get him to eat and then into the bath tub. It wasn't until I put him to bed that things got interesting.

We did our normal routine of teeth brushing, potty, and a bed time book. I figured that Andrew might be a little extra cranky/screamy for a few minutes but that he would fall asleep pretty quickly. Well, I was wrong. He didn't do a lot of screaming this time, but pulled a new trick out of the bed time revolt bag. I heard Andrew undo the Velcro of his diaper so I went in to see what was going on after a few minutes. He was standing there, naked, and when I asked him what was going on, he told me he peed. Yep, he had peed on the floor. Apparently there is a pee reserve for these occasions since he had just gone ten minutes before. I cleaned up and redressed the boy. I emphasized that his diaper and clothes are to stay on and that pee (or poop) goes in the toilet or diaper ONLY. Thankfully exhaustion must have set in and all was quiet shortly after.

Cut to nap time today. Again, we followed our usual routine. I changed Andrew's diaper (he didn't want to use the potty this time), we read a book, and turned the lights off. He called me in shortly after and I found him laying there pantsless and pulling the Velcro of his diaper off. I redressed him and said good night again. We did this routine about 4 times and then the fifth time, I stepped in something wet when I walked toward the crib. Pee on the floor. A lot of it. The edge of the area rug was soaked. Me = not happy. Clean up. Re-diaper and redress. Repeat this cycle 3 more times in the next hour and a half. I finally called it a day in regards to getting a nap. I called Carl to vent a little and to let him know what is in store for bed time tonight. The pee bandit.

Tropical Strawberry Shakeology

I was so excited to try the new vegan Tropical Strawberry Shakeology today, I just had to make a video about it! The flavor is great and I'm looking forward to trying different fruits and juices with it. For more info about all three favors of Shakeology, check out my site:

Birthday Weekend

Saturday was my birthday. I hit 32 this year. It was a fun weekend of celebrations that started on Friday evening with a few of my lovely girlfriends. Olivia and I drove out to Kim's house in Rantoul for an evening of good food and Just Dance 3 on the Wii. We ate dinner and shared some girl talk and rocked out some dance numbers. And there was an ice cream cake. I ate a large slab (no regrets).

Pesto pizza
My actual birthday started with my Saturday morning PiYo class (thank you to Kelly for venturing out to exercise with me on such a frigid morning!). After class, I treated myself to a scrumptious salted caramel mocha. Then Nicky, Ken, and my mom arrived shortly after I got back home. They all played with Andrew and talked about how big Olivia has gotten before we headed out for lunch at Black Rock Pizza Company in Urbana (formerly Red Star Liquors). We all ordered different pizzas, except Mom, who had a sandwich. It was all very good! Then we headed back to enjoy birthday cake #1 that Nicky and Ken brought down with them. It was also very good! They had to get home to their dog Murphy and we needed to get Andrew down for his nap.
Cake 1 - chocolate cake, chocolate frosting
After nap and more play time, none of us was very hungry for dinner since we had so much for lunch. I thought we needed to eat some "real food" before trying cake #2, so we ended up eating grilled cheese sandwiches and broccoli before digging in to the second cake. And a delicious cake it was!! Soon enough, it was time to shower Andrew and get ready for bed. Andrew showed Grandma Joanie how good he is at using the potty and we called it a night.

Cake 2 - marble cake, vanilla frosting
On Sunday morning, my mom offered to stay home with the children if I wanted to go shopping with my birthday money so Carl and I went out to the mall after breakfast. My goal was to find a new pair of jeans, but I didn't find a pair that I loved. I did notice, however, that sizing seems to have become even more whacked. While I know I'm not a big girl, I certainly shouldn't be fitting into the smallest size they have in the store either. Seriously! I think it's just a messed up marketing ploy to get women to feel like, "Oh! I fit into a size X (smaller than they thought)!" And then they buy more because they're pumped about fitting into a smaller size. It's sad, because this tactic works on so many women. But, I digress. I indulged in another coffee while we were at the mall and we found a nice pair of heels at Macy's that I will hopefully have an occasion to wear sometime.

Then, we went to Meijer since we needed groceries and then headed for home anticipating some crying because we had been gone for almost 3 hours. Happily, Andrew and Olivia behaved very well for Grandma while we were out. She had to get going and it was nap time again. I enjoyed some quiet time while both children slept and even snoozed a bit myself. The rest of the day was an uneventful night at home, except that Olivia rolled over! She was motivated to get her binkie and went for it! So proud of our strong girl! (video of rolling to come).

The end of my birthday celebrations is dinner tonight with Carl's parents at Olive Garden (Breadsticks. Yum!). Overall, I had a great birthday this year, mostly because it was spent with so many loved ones. But all the cake didn't hurt!

The Amazing PJ's vanisher

Andrew has never been a great sleeper, even when he was a baby. We used to think he had some sort of internal indicator that caused him to scream when the person holding and jiggling him to sleep sat down. The last 2 weeks, he has added something new to his repertoire of anti-bedtime tactics.  It started one night when we put Andrew to bed wearing footie PJ's, the kind with the zipper from neck to foot.  He went through his usual, "I need a drink," "Mommy, pat my back," jumping on the bed and yelling random stuff routine.  Eventually, Carl went in to check on him and found Andrew naked except for his diaper and a mine field of stuffed animals on the floor (said mine field is a regular part of the nightly happenings). Carl came back into our room swinging Andrew's jammies around to show me what was going on.  Andrew was redressed and told not to take his PJ's off again.  When I went back in a little while later, the picture was the same.  Naked boy, animals everywhere.  After a diaper change and getting dressed again, Andrew finally fell asleep.

This week, we progressed to the removal of pants and shirt.  That happened a couple of times.  Then a couple of nights ago, I heard Andrew calling for help saying something about his diaper.  I figured he went pee and needed to be changed.  I went in (by this time is was about 11PM and he had been in bed over 2 hours and had yet to quiet down) to find a fully naked boy, except for socks.  Yes, he discovered how to undo his diaper.  Thankfully there wasn't poop involved.  The culmination of all of this though, has got to be last night.  Andrew actually went to sleep without too much fussing, screaming bloody murder, etc.  I poked my head in to check because I was surprised that we hadn't heard too much from him before it was quiet.  Cut to about 2AM this morning.  I woke up to an Andrew scream. Carl went into Andrew's room to find him curled up in a naked little ball without a blanket and in a puddle of pee.  Apparently he had done his clothing and diaper removal before going to sleep and didn't ask for help to get it all back on this time.  I failed to see anything out of the ordinary when I had looked in earlier.  So Carl put a diaper and jammies back on Andrew while I stripped the wet sheets (luckily, I double layer the crib for just such an occasion).  After a drink of water and a little back patting, Andrew was back to sleep.

So now I have to wonder what's coming next...
